How Do I GET A Firearms Licence?
Your first step is to Join SSAA (QLD) Inc. This provides you with a genuine reason to apply for a licence for Sport & Target shooting. You do not need a firearms licence to join.

- be at least 11 years old (if you are aged between 11 to 17 you can apply for a minor’s licence)
- have a genuine reason for needing a firearms licence (See first step above)
- reside only in Queensland
- be a fit and proper person
- have completed an approved safety course in firearms safety
- have a safe and secure place to store a firearm.
can UNLICENSED people shoot on our range?
Yes. You must be a Fit and Proper Person and fill out a Form 33 Declaration when you arrive at the range. Please bring identification.
If you are firing rifles or shotguns you will need to be supervised directly by another licensed adult person.
If you are firing handguns you will need to be supervised directly by an approved Range Officer.

CAN non-members SHOOT ON OUR RANGE?
Yes.
Licensed non-members are welcome to attend advertised rifle practice days and competitions.
Unlicensed non-members can attend advertised practice days and competitions (by arrangement with the Discipline Captain).

When is the range open??
Anytime there is a shoot scheduled on our Calendar.
Please re-check the calendar before you head out as shoot can be cancelled or changed at the last minute.

CAN I Fire my firearm on your range?
Yes, provided the ammunition does not exceed the muzzle velocities or muzzle energy allowed on our ranges.
On our Rifle Range the muzzle velocity must not exceed 4100 feet per second or muzzle energy 4182 foot pounds for Centrefire/Blackpowder ammunition. Muzzle velocity must not exceed 2400 fps or muzzle energy 350 ft/Lbs for RimFire Ammunition.
On our Pistol Range the muzzle velocity must not exceed 1675 feet per second for Centrefire/Blackpowder ammunition. Muzzle velocity must not exceed 1710 fps for RimFire Ammunition. Muzzle energy must not exceed 1000 ftLbs.
